Pictures to email - how to quickly send pictures to email addresses in Windows XP

September 5th, 2008 by Paul

This is the quickest way to send Pictures to email addresses of your friends or family.

First, the biggest problem with sending pictures to email .. large file sizes .. what you can do about it…

One of the main problems people have with sending pictures to email addresses is that the images are too big. With modern digital cameras, often pictures are 2mb or 4mb each. if you add a few of these, your email will easily be 4mb or larger in size. This is too big to send in a normal email and it may cause your email program to hang, crash or just take a long time to send, plus the person you are emailing at the other side will have to wait for a long time to receive their emails.
… So it is important that these pictures are made smaller (resized), this guide covers the easiest way to quickly send pictures while resizing them along the way.

Lets get started…

My Pictures Folder

1) Go to the folder where your pictures are located. eg the “My Pictures” folder;
2) Select the photos you want to send. If you want to select more than one, click on the first one, then hold control and click on the others, one by one, or select a group as you normally would.

3) On the left there should be a blue panel that says “Picture Tasks” at the top and underneath it “File and Folder Tasks”. Look for a link that says “email this file” or “email the selected items” Click the text.

make all my pictures smaller window

4) Next you will have the option to “make all my pictures smaller” or “keep the original sizes”. I highly reconmend you use “make all my pictures smaller” as this means it will take far less time to send the pictures to email and also quicker for the other person to recieve the pictures in their email.
5a) After clicking ok you will see something like this (I have added the red bits):

.

OR.. If you don’t have outlook setup properly yet, you will see this:

If you see this, you will need to setup an account in outlook - call your internet provider for these instructions. This guide assumes you have outlook setup properly. If you use hotmail or gmail for your email and need instructions for that, please leave a comment or message for me.

6) Enter the email address you want to send the pictures to (1. in the picture)

7) Hit the send button, the email will now be sent and your pictures should go to the email address of your friend or family. (2. in the picture)

This concludes how to get Pictures to email in windows xp using the built in image resizing function and outlook. This is the quickest and easiest way for most people to send pictures to email addresses. I will be producing other guides if you don’t have outlook setup in windows XP in other guides over here.
